THE VICTORY at the SEA BATTLE of PALOS CAPE
This was the only battle of the Guerra Civil that took place in the sea.
At 70 sea miles East from Palos Cape, in Cartagena, on March 6th of 1938 both navys loyal and fascist contacted per hazard in the middle of the night.
A Fascist convoy was transporting wheapons sent by Mussolini.
The republican warships Libertad and Méndez Núñez and some destroyer ships commanded by admiral González Ubieta get face to face with the best rebel ships Canarias, Baleares , Velasco and Almirante Cervera and the transport ships that came from Italy via Mallorca.
The fascist navy tries to escape to reach the daylight for using then the powerful canyons supplied by Hitler.
The republican navy decide to presecute and shoot the rebels.
The battle ended at 02:20 h with republican destroyer LEPANTO launching 3 tropedos that sunk the Baleares and the rest of the rebels escaping.

First time in history that a ship was sunk by air-planes:
THE SINKING OF THE ARMOURED SHIP ESPAÑA

On April 30th of 1937, 6 republican airplanes Gourdou-Leseurre LGL-32 took off from Sondika airport to raise the blockade on Santander bay.
Pilots Baquedano, De la Mata, R. Panadero, García Borrajo, Zambudio and Valls started bombing the rebel ship at 7:3 a.m.
The armoured ship received several impact and begun to scape into reverse, crashing with a mine previously placed by this batteship to block the bay.
Pilot Miguel Zambudio attacks in 5th possition to roud off the sunk the nacionalist armoured España before the waters of the city of Santander.
He dropped a 100kg bomb and the oral tradition of the eye wittnesses says that bomb entered through the chimney of the ship.
Almost all the sailors of the España were rescued by nationalist destroyer ship Velasco, and the republicn aviators, so human gentlemen, refused to use their machine guns against the shipwrecked persons.
Only a few months after that brief victory, in August of that same year 1937, the city of Santander was captured by the facists.
